Member, Young Republicans State Board, 1971-73, 1981-83; Washington County Republican Central Committee, 1982-94 (vice-chair, 1986-94). Member, Dixon-Troxell Post no. 211, Funkstown, American Legion; Sons of the American Legion (chaplain); Railroad Old Timers Club. Member, Washington Square United Methodist Church, Hagerstown, Maryland. Married; two children.
