HARFORD COUNTY, MARYLAND

LEGISLATIVE BRANCH

ORIGIN & FUNCTIONS

COUNTY COUNCIL

Formerly, in Harford County, the legislative body had been the Board of County Commissioners. In November 1972, however, County voters adopted a charter form of government which provided for a county council as the legislative body, effective December 1972.

Today, the County Council consists of seven members. They are elected by district to four-year terms by the voters. The Council President is elected countywide by the voters to a four-year term, while the Council Vice-President is chosen by the Council annually from among its members (Code Local Government Article, sec. 1-101; County Charter, secs. 201 through 224; County Code, secs. 4-01 through 4-27).

HARFORD CABLE NETWORK
The Harford Cable Network is a public-access multi-use channel run by the County Council.

The Network's primary purpose is to educate and inform County residents, and promote a sense of community among them.
