In January 2012, the Senate President established the Special Committee on Ethics Reform. The Committee conducted a comprehensive review of the State Ethics Law and made recommendations for improving and clarifying its requirements, the transparency of required disclosures, how the complaint process works, and the consequences to violators.

The Committee's work led to introduction of legislation during the 2012 session (Senate Bill 920, enacted as Chapter 620, Acts of 2012; & Senate Bill 948).

In 2013, the Committee completed its work.
