In 2017, Diageo, one of the world's largest producers of alcoholic beverages, announced its plan to build a Guinness brewery and taproom in Relay, Baltimore County. This facility would be the company's sole brewery in the United States.

In 2016, manufacturing provided $21.15 billion to Maryland's gross domestic product, up from $21.03 billion in 2015.
In 2015, Maryland manufacturing was led by chemical manufactures ($6.7 billion), computer and electronic product manufactures ($4.3 billion), food, beverage and tobacco manufactures ($3.05 billion), and fabricated metal products ($809 million).
